Fear or Freedom?

Prison is simply a place or state of mind that takes away our freedom. Most people are imprisoned by their own mind because it is saturated with fear. We all have fears and we all have the opportunity to choose freedom. When you are feeling like you do not have control over your circumstances or you cannot control overwhelming feelings of frustration, anger or despair; then you become imprisoned by these things.

There is an innate character in humans for the need to control. We feel a sense of comfort when we feel we are in control. Most humans do not like change and will continue to stay in miserable situations to avoid change. When we feel that we do not have control or are losing control we become very uncomfortable. The most valuable lesson you can learn in life is that you have more control over your life than what you believe. You do not always have control over circumstances in your life but you do have control over how you respond and behave while in the midst of difficult circumstances. You do not have control over how other people act or how other people treat you; but you do have control over how you feel and how you respond to them.

There are also many people imprisoned by their past or the uncertainty of the future. You have the freedom to release yourself from guilt or shameful feelings from your past and the ability to free yourself from obsessive worrying and fears about your future. This type of imprisonment can be overcome by living in the present moment and letting go. When you let go you are truly free.

Another barrier that blocks true  freedom is the belief that certain conditions must be met before you can be happy. This is a perfect example of a way that you may be directly taking freedom away from yourself! You have the freedom to be happy, to attain peace and joy. There is NOTHING that can prevent you from feeling calmness or joyfulness, except you! You are free to feel calm and joyful in any and every circumstance. You must practice emptying your mind and letting go of what is happening in your life or how people are treating you, because you do not have control of these things. If you replace your focus of attention on love, joy, peace, acceptance, compassion for others and most importantly for yourself then you will feel a freedom that you have never felt before.

Allow yourself to be free. Only you have the power to transform your life. Too many people give power to circumstances, to other people and to their temporary feelings and emotions. You can choose to take away this power you have so freely given away and recapture this power. Be kind to yourself, take care of yourself. Do not expect anyone else to do this for you. You have the key to unlock yourself from your prison. And you have the power to walk away and live in complete freedom.
